Some Thoughts |

I'm always amazed when I see people who fought in wars stand up years later and wax poetic about how glorious it was. That's bullshit. War is one of the most horrible ventures humans engage in. Don't let the stirring military music and the crisp uniforms fool you. There is no glory to war, only butchered bodies and shattered dreams. Do you think it's democracy you fight for? You're wrong. You fight so corporations can make excessive profits from munitions. You fight so the imperialistic dreams of fortune for the few can be realized with the blood of the many. The politicians who urge your response to war's siren call have their sons and daughters safely tucked away in college or the domestic guard. You won't see their faces blown apart in the mud of the killing fields. Their families won't have an oak encased flag on their mantle in lieu of grand children's pictures. That honor belongs to the poorer classes. They are the ones that fight and die in glorious wars. I've heard our president boast about combat experience, but he never faced an enemy to kill or be killed. Yet he'll urge you into the fray with patriotic words and flag waving. It's easy to send someone else off to die when you and yours are safe. You want to do your part to defend America and keep it strong? Then educate yourself. Learn what's really going on. Discover how much blood is being traded for oil, how many civilians die when stronger countries invade weaker ones. Look at who profits from war. It sure as hell isn't the little guy. Stand up for democracy by learning the real facts. Don't mindlessly accept what you are told. Governments lie constantly then weave support from misdirection. Read what the foreign media thinks of us and why. Their perspective is quite different from what we are fed. Defend what is important to you by demanding human resources be supported instead of the corporations who use our government to attain world dominance. If you investigate and learn what's really happening beyond the smoke and mirrors and still want to wave the flag while wearing the uniform of world aggression, go ahead. It won't be your children that suffer loss of human rights as the world becomes corporatized. Your body parts will rot in some foreign land and instead of grand children, your parents will have a three cornered oak box to play with. |
