30 years ago, many of those sent to Vietnam were sprayed by the U.S. with Agent Orange. After returning home and beginning to exhibit symptoms of the poison in their bodies, they were ignored by the VA and the government and left to die--many vets have, as well as some of their children.
Today, many of those sent to the Gulf War are exhibiting symptoms of the chemicals, experimental drugs and contaminates to which they were exposed. Again, the VA and government is telling these vets, like the Vietnam vets, that it is all in their heads--despite clear evidence to the contrary.
Our experience in Vietnam taught us the reality of what being the storm troopers for U.S. imperialism means--used to further its interests and then thrown away. The nature of imperialism has not changed and the Gulf War veterans are learning that lesson today--they were used and now they are being thrown away.
VVAW AI knows what these vets are going though and sympathizes with them and their families. We unite our voices their demands for the Truth about the Gulf War Syndrome and for Treatment by the VA. We also call on the GW vets to look hard at the iron fist of imperialism under the tattered glove of democracy.
