U.S. Imperialism and the Islamic Republic are both

Enemies and Oppressors of the People of Iran

1946—1979: U.S. Imperialism the main sponsor and backer of Shah Mohammed Reza Pahlavi. Decades of repression. SAVAK. Development of Iran as a militarized dependent-capitalist society. U.S. employs Iran as a regional gendarme. Brutal oppression and suffering of majority of Iranian people.

1953: U.S. CIA and UK MI6 orchestrate coup against elected Prime Minister Mossadegh

1979: As a last resort the U.S. gives green light for transfer of power from Shah regime to Khomeini. The U.S. does this to prevent the revolution from going further. The U.S. embassy remains a center for spying and covert activities... to continue domination of Iran. When the Shah enters the U.S. Iranian students righteously seize the embassy. U.S. imposes sanctions, attacks and threatens Iran. The Islamic Republic uses this as pretext and cover to repress progressive people and movements. A U.S. faction arranges with regime to withhold resolution of crisis to influence domestic U.S. election.

1980: U.S. gives Iraq “green light” to attack Iran. U.S. imperialism, its allies and rivals arm both sides through the course of the war.

1982: CIA provides names of progressive, revolutionary and secular/opposition activists to Islamic Republic to assist in murderous suppression and mass imprisonment of these people. U.S. and Israel sell arms to Iran; use proceeds to illegally arm the CIA organized “Contras” of Nicaragua.

1987-88: Stability of Iraqi regime is under threat. U.S. decisively tilts towards Iraq: attacks Iranian targets multiple times during “war of the tankers”. U.S. works closely with Iraqi regime: providing material and intelligence support in a series of major offensives against Iran and its Kurdish nationalist allies. Iraq uses chemical weapons made from material supplied by U.S. and Europe with full knowledge of U.S.

July3, 1988: USS Vincennes shoots down Iran Air flight 655 killing 290 people. This cold blooded massacre is a warning to Iranians of worse to come if Iran doesn't yield.

July19, 1988—Dec 1989: Islamic Republic secretly executes tens of thousands of political prisoners on basis of religious interrogations.

1990's: U.S. wages ongoing war on Iraq while Iran regime stands by. In Iran, serial murders of dissidents and opponents of Islamic Republic. Repeated protests repressed.

2000's: Repeated U.S. threats against Iran based on Israeli orchestrated allegations against Iran nuclear program.

2001—present: Islamic Republic collaborates with U.S. invasion and occupation of Afghanistan.

2003—present: Islamic Republic collaborates with U.S. invasion and occupation of Iraq. Iraqi puppet regime led by political parties allied with the Islamic Republic.

2007—present: U.S. special forces wage clandestine warfare against Iran in Iranian territory.

2008: High profile threats and deployments against Iran. Plans for massive bombing perfected and openly discussed.

June 2009—present: Mass upsurge against Islamic Republic triggered by election crisis. Real potential for revolutionary change to be brought forward. U.S. and other imperialists seek to use the mass movement and conflict within Islamic Republic to bring Iran and the region more firmly under their control. U.S.-- Israeli “tag team” military threats against Iran. Massive U.S. escalation in Afghanistan. Expansion of this war into Pakistan with millions of people driven from their homes.

“The essence of what exists in the U.S. is not democracy but capitalism-imperialism and political structures to enforce that capitalism-imperialism. What the U.S. spreads around the world is not democracy, but imperialism and political structures to enforce that imperialism.”

Israel and the U.S.: who is whose tool?

From A World To Win News Service

28 June 2010. A World to Win News Service. The American international policy professors John Mearsheimer and Stephen Walt, who are critical of U.S. support for Israeli settlement expansion and its attacks on Lebanon and Gaza, argue that "the unmatched power of the Israel lobby" distorts U.S. foreign policy. Many people outraged by these crimes have been influenced by their still widely circulated article "The Israel Lobby" that first appeared in The London Review of Books in 2006 (available at lrb.co.uk) and was later expanded into a book published in 21 countries.

(at VVAWAI we've been grappling with the relationship between U.S. imperialism and Israel for a long time.  This article is very helpful-- Anton, VVAWAI)

Only You Can End the War

Crimes are crimes, no matter who commits them. This war, from its onset to now, has been a crime against humanity, and people of conscience must oppose it. You must oppose it. The point that must be grasped, and acted on with the courage, creativity, daring, and moral clarity of our convictions, is that this war is unjust, immoral, and illegal, regardless of who is in charge.
