Recents reports indicate that Mumia's death warrant is scheduled to be sign sometime in March. People need to rally to Mumia's side and express their opposition and outrage to the continuing efforts to silence this outspoken political prisoner. Background
Mumia Abu-Jamal is a political prisoner on death row in Pennsylvania. The so-called criminal system placed him there 18 years ago when they wrongly convicted him for the death of a Philadelphia police officer in 1982. Mumia is an award winning journalist, an eloquent and outspoken opponent of racism and injustice. He was targeted by Philadelphia police, since the '60s when he was a 15 year old member of the Black Panther Party, and later when he publicized police abuses against minority communities. Mumia had no prior criminal record.
Mumia's trial was totally unfair. In the eyes of the court, Mumia was guilty until proven innocent, whereas you're supposed to be innocent until proven guilty. The court refused Mumia his right to represent himself. The court allowed false testimony and refused Mumia his most basic rights to introduce new evidence, and to show how witnesses had lied, under oath, while threatened or bribed by the police. And now they want to kill him!!!
The legal case has entered the final phase in the federal appeals process. The case is now before Judge Yohn who is deciding if all of the critical facts (that the state court refused to allow) can be entered into the record. You can encourage the judge by sending a letter to Judge William H. Yohn, Jr., c/o Leonard Weinglass, Esq., 6 West 20th Street, Suite 10A, New York, NY 10011. Leonard is Mumia's attorney.
But, most importantly, you can join with us in refusing to allow this legal lynching. This system tries to silence all those who speak the truth like Martin Luther King and Malcom X. We must not allow them to silence Mumia. We must express our outrage at this injustice in the streets together in a massive way. Join us. We can win Mumia's freedom, but we need your help.
