VVAW AI is putting out a call for ideas/stories/tools for fighting recruiters on and off school campuses. We want to update our Recruiter Free Zone stuff. There are many creative ways to resist their efforts to suck down our youth.

As a brief example–A couple years ago in Seattle at Cascade High School, a Senior, named Michael Selby walked into a recruiter-infested cafeteria carrying a hand-painted sign that said "Join the Navy, Kill People". He sat down next to the recruiters with his sign and began to eat his lunch. A school administrator immediately approached him and asked him the put the sign down. The student then enlisted the support of teacher Kay Powers and she was there to cover his back. Kay challenged the Navy, in writing, to a public debate. The Navy ignored her challenge. Kay then publicly challenged them in the cafeteria in front of the students. The recruiters response, "I’m a recruiter–it’s not my place to defend the Marine Corp. My job is not in public affairs…my role is not to be put on the spot and have bullets fired at me."

This whole affair brought out great discussion among the students of the whole recruiter/military role etc. Please share your tools, ideas and stories with us.
