Roy's Tape |
|
Excerpted from the liner notes-This 2 CD set is proof from the 60s and 70s that culture can be a leading and potent weapon in the political struggle. My friend and marching buddy, a Vietnam veteran named Roy, made this tape and gave it to me at a time, years ago, when we were driving around giving speeches together for Vietnam Vets Against the War Anti-Imperialist. The tape "anthemizes" a critical time for our generation, from a revolutionary, anti-war GI/vet perspective. Roy's Tape is a collage of powerful individual pieces, each-in its own way-straining to break the leash. Taken together, they create a political image of Roy himself, an incredible individual with profound and revolutionary politics. Copied again and again, and kept too long in a hot car, this tape, with all its "range marks," is now a historical artifact. Recently realizing that I may have the only copy of Roy's Tape still in existence, I transferred it "as is" to CD except to break the songs into individual tracks, so my computer wouldn't choke on the project. Roy's Tape constitutes all of Disk 1 as well as tracks 1 through 4 on Disk 2. One small thing to do is to listen to and spread Roy's Tape, letting the past serve the present. None of the music appears here with permission, so I don't know how long I can sell these CDs and donate all money received to the Independent Media Center (IMC), 1415 3rd Ave, Seattle WA 98101. As long as I can, I will. Meanwhile, if you can copy this pirate CD, with its cover and liner notes, and sell copies yourself, sending all the money to the IMC, then this little piece of the movement goes on. The project depends on the people.-Randy This project was not initiated nor approved by the Independent Media Center. Nor were they even informed that it was going to happen. But I imagine they'll be pleased to get the much-needed dough. If you take up this cause and dupe the CDs, send the money directly to the IMC. If you want to buy the CD from me, send $15 to Randy, PO Box 20626, Seattle, WA 98102. I'll pay the postage and get the set right to you. |
