Oppose Facial Profiling and Border Lockdowns

From April 20 to 22, Quebec City will be the site of the Summit of Americas, a gathering of the heads of governments from 34 countries in North, South and Central America, as well as the Caribbean (Cuba was not invited!). Quebec City will be sealed behind concrete walls and chain-link fences, and have a prison emptied, readied for protestors. In the past cities were sealed against foreign invaders, not against their own citizens.

This conference and the planned protests are likened to the 1999 WTO conference in Seattle. Canadian government officials have rented all vacant apartments and houses within the security perimeter, and reserved hotel rooms within 55 miles.

The purpose of the Summit is to put the final touches on a Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA) agreement - which will expand NAFTA. The FTAA goal is to increase privatization and deregulation to help step up imperialist globalization for the whole Western Hemisphere.

Along with collectively dividing up and further enslaving the whole world, it has been reported that new Big Brother technology will be implement on the border to assist in arresting protesters, specifically in identifying and denying WTO and protestors from the IMF April 2000 protests from crossing the border.

Canadian authorities are planning on using biometrics technology on the border to stop people from coming to Canada to protest. Protestors are figuring out how to evade and defeat these attempts. Biometrics is face matching technology. The software measures 250 points of facial geometry so that mug shots can be matched. There are plans to use this at the Mexican border as well as being used by governments like Peru, etc. There is a border security agreement on intelligence between America FBI and Canada's RCMP (Royal Canadian Mounted Police) Videotapes of previous demos in Seattle and in Washington DC last April have been scanned to record faces of demonstrators to identify them at the border. According to the UPI,"FBI sources say some of the new facial recognition software that was tested at this years superbowl is so good that it can identify suspects even if half their faces were concealed with bandanas."
