- U.S. Corporations in Iraq! First, when the massive pile of documents from Iraq appeared, in photos, in the paper, and the U.S. immediately pulled out all stops to get first access, to shut down wide dissemination, etc. -- the smart money said that buried in the morass there would be evidence of U.S. (and European) culpability in aiding the Iraqi weapons programs, dating back to before the Gulf War, but covering the period of Hussein's rise and his worst crimes, etc.. - Collateral Damage: the health and environmental costs of war on Iraq! The evidence-based report, introduced by Dr June Crown, Medact President and former president of the Faculty of Public Health Medicine of the Royal College of Physicians UK, summarises from a public health perspective the effects of the previous Gulf War, and outlines the likely impact of another war on the people of Iraq, on the combatants and on the wider world. It concludes that the threatened war could have disastrous short, medium and long-term consequences for all concerned and summarises alternatives to war. (11/13/02)

- Remembering Katrina and the Need for Climate Justice
by William Hughes (10/16/06)
Nearly one year after Katrina struck the Gulf Coast, the Bush-Cheney Gang has done little, on the issue of global warming, to prevent another devastating disaster. At a rally, on Aug. 26, 2006, at the main headquarters of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Adm. (NOAA), Mike Tidwell, the author of The Ravaging Tide, charged that unless something is done now about the warming of our global atmosphere, more Katrinas are on their way.

A campaign to. . . 1) Call on Congress to investigate and expose the manufacture and manipulation of "intelligence" about Iraq's weapons of mass destruction - the excuse used to justify the murder of over 5,000 civilians and the seizure of another country. 2) Expose the lies directly to the America people through grassroots, educational efforts. - In the days after Hezbollah crossed from Lebanon into Israel, on July 12th, to kidnap two soldiers, triggering an Israeli air attack on Lebanon and a full-scale war, the Bush Administration seemed strangely passive. "It's a moment of clarification," President George W. Bush said at the G-8 summit, in St. Petersburg, on July 16th. "It's now become clear why we don't have peace in the Middle East."

- "On June 25, the Palestinians responded to continued, unrelenting and unjustifiable Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) attacks against them by striking at an Israeli military post near Kerem Shalom crossing, southeast of Rafah, killing two IDF soldiers, injuring several others, and capturing (not "kidnapping) a third. It set off a swift and deadly IDF response of daily killings and mass destruction in the Occupied Palestinian Territories (OPT)against defenseless Palestinians helpless in the face of the relentless IDF onslaught.
Events since escalated into a mass conflagration when Hezbollah resistance fighters captured (again, not "kidnapped") two IDF soldiers who apparently illegally crossed the UN-monitored "blue line" into Lebanon as they've routinely done almost daily after withdrawing from the country in May, 2000. Again the IDF responded with overwhelming force...."

- U.N. Security Council resolution #1701, drafted by the U.S. and France, in close consultation with Israel, is part of the same process and serves the same imperialist political ends as the U.S./Israeli war. Announcing the decision of the Israeli cabinet to escalate the war, Israeli Defense Minister Amir Peretz said on Israeli radio, "We are doing everything to allow these two efforts [military and diplomatic] to complement each other...."

- "Before the end of the month the international community will face a test of a different kind which is on a par with the Iranian nuclear file. This is because the international community is leaning toward inflexibility and noose-tightening at the same time that it practices a considerable degree of laxity in the face of Israel's arrogance. The irony is that the civilized world was shaken merely because Iran did not comply with the suggested schedule for Tehran to reply in less than a month or two, while it exhibited considerable understanding regarding Israel's position, giving it enough time and room to achieve supremacy on the battlefield..."

- "It has been two weeks since I last reviewed some of the readers' mail in this column. Today, I turn my attention back to the mail, because most of it is a continuation of what I have written before. I have withdrawn my personal recognition of Israel, due to its recent crimes in Palestine and Lebanon. This topic has brought in the largest number of readers' messages since I started my journalistic career...."
